Ditch the Store-Bought: Make Creamy Yogurt Effortlessly in Your Instant Pot

Making yogurt in the Instant Pot is a simple and rewarding process that requires just a few ingredients and some basic knowledge of the appliance. Here's a step-by-step guide to get you started.

Ingredients

- 1 liter of milk (whole, low-fat, or non-fat)
- 1/4 cup of plain yogurt (with live cultures)
- Optional: sweetener, flavorings, or probiotic powder

Instructions

Prepare the milk; Pour the milk into the Instant Pot and heat it to 180°F (82°C) using the "Saute" function. Hold the temperature for 5-10 minutes to kill any bacteria that may be present.

Cool the milk; Allow the milk to cool to 110°F (43°C) to 120°F (49°C). This is an important step, as the bacteria in the yogurt starter can't tolerate high temperatures.

Add the yoghurt starter; Add the plain yogurt to the cooled milk and whisk until it's fully incorporated.

Incubate the yoghurt; Close the lid of the Instant Pot and set the "Yogurt" function to the desired incubation time (usually 8-12 hours). The Instant Pot will maintain a consistent temperature, allowing the yogurt to incubate and set.

Chill the yoghurt; Once the incubation time is complete, remove the yogurt from the Instant Pot and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours to chill and set.

Strain the yoghurt; If you prefer a thicker yogurt, you can strain it through a cheesecloth or a nut milk bag to remove excess liquid.Though this is optional.

Add flavors; You can add sweetener, flavorings, or probiotic powder to your yogurt to suit your taste preferences.

Tips and variations

Use a thermometer; To ensure that the milk has reached the correct temperature, use a thermometer to monitor the temperature.

Experiment with different milk; You can make yogurt with different types of milk, such as almond milk, soy milk, or coconut milk.

Add probiotics; You can add probiotic powder to your yogurt for an extra boost of beneficial bacteria.

Try different flavourings; You can add different flavorings, such as vanilla, cinnamon, or fruit, to your yogurt for a unique taste.

By following these steps and tips, you can create delicious homemade yogurt in your Instant Pot.
